  “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Brontë I have read 20 chapters and I would like to share my first impressions/  Jane is portrayed as a strong-willed and resilient character. Her experiences at Gateshead with her Aunt Reed and cousins reveal the cruelty and injustice she faces, yet they also highlight her inner strength and desire for self-respect. The contrast between her passionate spirit and the oppressive environment around her is striking. Brontë’s commentary on social class and gender roles is evident. Jane’s position as an orphan and a governess places her in a precarious social standing, reflecting the limited options available to women during the Victorian era. Her struggles against societal expectations are compelling and thought-provoking. The settings, from the bleak Gateshead to the austere Lowood School, create a vivid backdrop for Jane’s experiences.
